As Sunday, May 18 approaches, the date on which the legislative elections in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires will be held, expectations are growing for a day that could mark a turning point in the Buenos Aires Legislature. In this context, the national ruling party, represented in the capital territory by La Libertad Avanza, is promoting a key initiative to ensure the transparency of the electoral process: the massive recruitment of citizen prosecutors under the slogan #FiscalizaPorLaLibertad, which quickly became a trend on social media.
La Libertad Avanza is betting on building a new legislative majority in the City, in line with the wave of support that President Milei has received since taking office on December 10, 2023. To achieve this, it needs to ensure not only the mobilization of voters but also the strict control of the election, hence the importance of the oversight campaign that continues to recruit enrollees throughout the Capital.
The goal of the campaign is clear: to protect the votes of Javier Milei's candidate in the City, Manuel Adorni, the current presidential spokesperson and visible face of the transformation project led by the national government.
According to the official website of LLA, any citizenwho is a voter, who can read, write, and is duly authorized by the front or political party, can serve as a prosecutor anywhere in the country, regardless of the address on their ID. This criterion was endorsed by the Electoral Justice in 2017, when it declared the residency requirement in the same district unconstitutional.
"Protect your freedom! Help us safeguard the votes," the official call states emphatically, inviting interested parties to register online, receive training, and obtain the corresponding power at least three days before the election.
The electoral act will be conducted using the single electronic ballot system, a tool that streamlines the voting process and reduces margins of error and irregularities. The methodology includes the following steps:
Presentation of the physical and valid ID.
Delivery of the electronic ballot, a chip card without the need for envelopes or dark rooms.
Selection on screen: upon inserting the card, the 17 available lists are displayed.
Confirmation and printing of the chosen vote.
Final verification and deposit in the ballot box.
The ballot for Manuel Adorni can be easily located on the system's screen. His candidacy is presented as the local expression of a change that has already begun at the national level with the presidency of Javier Milei. On a key election day, each volunteer prosecutor will be an essential piece in the mission to confirm at the polls a path of freedom in the city.
