The journalist, broadcaster, and host Oscar “Negro” González Oro passed away this Friday at the age of 74 in Punta del Este, Uruguay. The news of his death became known in recent hours and caused a strong shock in the Argentine media environment.

Born in Mendoza on October 16, 1951, González Oro built a career spanning several decades and became one of the emblematic figures of AM radio. His direct style, unique tone of voice, and the closeness he sought to establish with listeners were some of the characteristics that marked his trajectory.

For several years, he had been residing in Punta del Este, a city where he remained connected to the media. In 2024, for example, he had led the morning programming of the station El Observador 107.9 from Uruguay.

Who was Oscar “Negro” González Oro

Before becoming one of the most popular voices in the country, González Oro had various interests. During his youth, he dreamed of dedicating himself to music and studied piano, while also exploring the fields of Law and Psychology and training in theater.

His approach to radio began when he was young, and over time he found there the space that would define much of his professional life. After different experiences, his career took a decisive leap when he joined Radio 10, a station where he became one of its main figures.

At the helm of programs like El Oro y el Moro, he managed to establish himself for years among the most listened-to voices of Argentine mornings. In addition to radio, he developed an extensive television career and participated in various journalistic and entertainment projects.
