The lack of debate in Córdoba in the face of the violence of the orange people generates strong criticism of provincial security management.

The brutal aggression suffered by commissioner Rubén Brandán once again highlighted the constant danger posed by illegal caretakers on the streets of Córdoba. This serious episode, which occurred in the midst of a dispute between gangs, reactivated the urgency of enacting a law that definitely prohibits this criminal activity. Despite the seriousness of the events, politics continues to postpone a debate necessary to guarantee the peace of mind of neighbors and merchants
.
The Minister of Security, Juan Pablo Quinteros, redoubled the pressure on the Legislature, pointing out that the lack of a clear legal framework creates legal insecurity. The delay in dealing with the amendments to the Code of Coexistence seems to respond more to a calculation of political capital than to a true vocation for service. While part of local politics prefers to avoid possible electoral costs, citizens must face daily extortion and threats from these groups that act with
total impunity.
In this context, a sector of local politics is leaning towards “intermediate” regulation rather than the total prohibition of a practice that has already exceeded the limits of coexistence. By not allowing the treatment of opposition projects, it ends up directly legitimizing the actions of those who illegally appropriate public space. Thus, the priority seems to be placed on the political future of some sectors rather than on protecting the physical integrity of citizens and their own security forces.
Opposition sectors denounce that the discussion was stopped by pressure from various social actors, leaving the population of Córdoba in a state of absolute lack of protection. It is urgent that part of provincial politics stop prioritizing its public image and assume responsibility for completely eradicating the activity of illegal caretakers
.
“The only truth is political responsibility,” said legislator Hernández Maqueda, questioning the lack of will to permanently ban this practice. The series of daily arrests of Naranjitas in different areas of the city confirms that these are not isolated events but rather a systemic and violent problem. Urban coexistence has been overwhelmed and the insistence on intermediate solutions only contributes to perpetuating a cycle of aggression that has already reached, even,
the security forces.
The primary obligation must be to protect those who protect public safety, but the reality shows a worrying institutional weakness in the face of criminal advances in the streets. If we persist in refusing to discuss the total ban on “naranjitas”, we will continue to be complicit in a system of extortion and violence that affects thousands of users. You cannot continue to “kick” an issue that has already become the central axis of the public agenda due to its direct impact on the lives of the people of Córdoba
. Last year, more than 300 illegal caretakers were arrested in Córdoba
Public security versus political convenience and electoral aspirations
The dilemma lies in the fear of certain political sectors in Córdoba of fracturing social bases or exposing ideological flanks, thus neglecting the demand for order that society demands. Juan Manuel Llamosas, head of the Security Commission, is tasked with unlocking a project that today seems trapped in sterile electorally speculative discussions.
The grievances of the merchants, who suffer from the presence of these violent groups in key commercial areas, cannot be ignored any longer by the political power.
Current regulations allow activity under conditions that in practice are diffuse and facilitate the commission of serious crimes such as aggravated coercion. Proposing a simple regularization is an insufficient answer to a problem that requires firmness and strict application of the law throughout the province. Society observes with indignation how internal political balance is prioritized over social peace and unrestricted respect for the rules of coexistence
