In the run-up to the return of Formula 1 activity following the cancellations of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), confirmed changes to the Miami Grand Prix schedule
.According to the agency, the only free practice session on Friday will be extended from one hour to 90 minutes, with the aim of improving the teams' preparation for recent technical changes. In this way, the initial practice will take place from 13:00 to 14:30 (Argentine time) and will start half an hour ahead of schedule. In addition, all previous track activities will also be brought forward 30 minutes, in a general reconfiguration of the day's program
.The decision was taken after an agreement with the teams and responds to a particular context of the championship. On the one hand, the long time that has elapsed since the last race in Japan (when the practice starts in Miami, it will be 33 days since the last race) and, on the other, the introduction of new regulatory changes that require more
time to adapt.
Among the changes that will debut in Miami are adjustments such as “super clipping”, improvements in energy recovery systems and new measures related to safety at the start, all approved
unanimously.Added to this is the weekend's sprint format, which considerably limits test opportunities, since it only includes a practice before competitive sessions. For this reason, the extension of training seeks to compensate for this lack of shooting
.With this adjustment, the FIA tries to ensure that teams arrive better prepared for the race on the street circuit around the Hard Rock Stadium, one of the most demanding venues on the calendar.
