Shortly after the confirmation of Franco Colapinto's exhibition in Buenos Aires, and as construction progresses at the Autódromo Oscar and Juan Gálvez, the The City Government is intensifying efforts to complete the return of Formula 1 to the country, with a key meeting scheduled for next month

.

A delegation composed of Buenos Aires authorities and representatives of the OSD Group, and possibly with representatives of the Ministry of Finance and managers of AUSA, will travel to the Miami Grand Prix to hold a meeting with Liberty Media managers with the objective of presenting the progress of the project and evaluating the possibility of including Argentina in the calendar, with an eye on 2028.

The plan is to show the progress of the works on the Gálvez, which is currently undergoing its first phase of renovation, initially designed to host MotoGP.

It should be remembered that the project was later expanded with the intention of also meeting the requirements of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and thus aspiring to be able to host a Máxima race again, something that has not happened since 1998.

"We are following the steps they required of us.

From the protocol, from the technical and operational aspects with the advisory group, which is Tilke, specifically recommended by Liberty,” explained Fabián Turnes, Secretary of Sports of the City in an interview for the specialized media outlet Motorsport.

“The first meeting we had with them was a year ago in Miami. Since then there has been a lot of progress and it's good that, at least, we have completed the steps as we said. And now we can show a reality: that the racetrack is under construction, that it wasn't just a wish we had, quite the contrary,” he said

.

One of the points under analysis is to advance key works, such as a new curve with a slope, which were initially planned for a second phase, with the objective of leading to the meeting in Miami with concrete advances that would strengthen the candidacy. “In stage 1, it wasn't considered. Last week we put on the table whether it is appropriate, for a strategic reason, to include it in phase 1 and not as phase 2, depending on this meeting that we are going to have in Miami, and to go with something concrete: that it will be done. It's a definition that we're going to take in these days leading up to Miami,” he explained.

The international context also appears to be a determining factor. The saturation of the calendar and the possibility of venue rotation, together with possible geopolitical conflicts affecting careers in the Middle East, could open a window for new positions. In that regard, Turnes said: “We know that today the Formula 1 calendar has contracts that expire. There began to be rotation of some venues. And then the global conjuncture appears, which may open a window

.”

“It's clear that it would be sad if a window opened for that. But capable ends up being an opportunity in that scenario. We will surely know closer to the end of the year, when the Qatar Grand Prix comes. If this continues, a window may open because in 2027 some of these dates could be disaffected due to conflicting issues

,” he added.

Although the return in 2027 seems far away, the organization recognizes that the objective is to position itself in the medium term. “Saying a date is difficult. I wish we had a clear window because it's important. I think that, if the situation doesn't change, I find it more difficult to think about 2027. But not so far away in 2028, because if you think about it, it would still be a short time,”

Turnes concluded.
