In the province of Axel Kicillof, criminals no longer hide: in less than 24 hours, two “tumberos” wakes were transformed into real spectacles of impunity, with gunshots in the air, streets taken over and gangs showing their impunity without any reprisal. The scenes, which took place in Merlo and Fuerte Apache, exposed an increasingly frequent reality in the
Buenos Aires suburbs. One of the episodes took place in the town of Libertad, in front of the cemetery near the Midland stadium, where Abraham Ismael Troncoso, a 20-year-old thief killed after trying to rob a Buenos Aires policeman, was fired. During the procession, several attendees drew weapons and began shooting in the air, while others accompanied them with motorcycles and exhaust explosions, creating a climate of total intimidation
on public roads. The scene not only included physical violence, but also a symbolic construction on social networks, where family members and relatives disseminated images of the offender with messages vindicating him, accompanied by music that glorifies criminal activity. There were even t-shirts with his face and slogans that dismissed him as an admired and “respectable” figure.
The second incident took place in the housing complex known as Fort Apache, in the district of Tres de Febrero, a territory historically criss-crossed by criminal disputes. There, the wake of Mario Carrizo, alias “Marito” or “Muela”, was held, identified as a member of a band linked to drug trafficking. As in Merlo, the farewell was marked by the presence of firearms, with multiple people carrying 9mm guns and firing shots in the air
