Tehran conditioned the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz on the lifting of sanctions and payments from the United States.

The Iranian regime has once again heightened tensions with the United States by presenting a delusional proposal that Washington and several international analysts have interpreted as a diplomatic extortion attempt regarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime routes on the planet for the transport of oil and gas.

According to reports from Arab media and regional diplomatic sources, Iran offered to reopen the maritime passage only if it receives economic compensation from the United States and if sanctions are lifted before reaching any definitive agreement.

The proposal was conveyed during the visit to Tehran by the Chief of the Army of Pakistan, General Asim Munir, amid Islamabad's diplomatic efforts to prevent a new military escalation between Washington and Tehran. According to leaks, Iranian authorities conditioned the reopening of the strait on compensatory payments and prior negotiations regarding frozen funds and relief from sanctions.

The administration of President Donald Trump has repeatedly rejected any Iranian attempt to impose conditions on a maritime route considered international. Trump stated that the United States will not accept pressure or concessions that grant Iran economic or political control over the strait. U.S. officials also warned that keeping navigation free is a strategic priority and that the military option remains on the table if negotiations fail.

In recent weeks, sectors of the Iranian government and media linked to the regime have promoted various projects to charge tolls, mandatory insurance, and special fees to ships passing through Hormuz. There was even discussion about the possibility of preventing the passage of vessels from countries deemed "hostile" if they did not pay economic compensations.

Various experts and Western governments have pointed out that these initiatives violate basic principles of freedom of navigation and represent an attempt to use global energy trade as a tool of geopolitical pressure.

The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, acknowledged that there are still deep differences with Washington, although he stated that both parties are "very far and very close" to an agreement at the same time.

He also confirmed that General Munir's visit aimed to exchange messages between Iran and the United States. At the same time, the Iranian foreign minister has been in contact with representatives from Turkey, Iraq, Qatar, and Oman to strengthen the diplomatic route.

However, while these conversations are ongoing, high-ranking Iranian leaders continue to issue threats against Washington. The president of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, asserted that if Trump decides to resume hostilities, the Iranian response will be "more crushing and bitter" than during the early days of the conflict. The official stated that the Iranian armed forces took advantage of the ceasefire to reorganize and prepare for a potential new confrontation.

The White House maintains a maximum pressure stance on Tehran and believes that Iranian demands seek to gain economic and political advantages following the military conflict. U.S. media recently reported that the Trump administration is considering new attacks if a satisfactory agreement on the Iranian nuclear program and maritime security in the Persian Gulf is not reached.

Meanwhile, regional leaders are trying to prevent a new large-scale war. The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, spoke with Trump and expressed support for initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy.

Despite diplomatic contacts, the Iranian proposal was met with skepticism in the West. For sectors close to the White House, the idea of demanding economic compensations in exchange for guaranteeing free maritime transit amounts to using a global strategic infrastructure as a mechanism for political blackmail.
