Following the announcements made by President Javier Milei regarding the Malvinas issue, the Government published on Friday the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) 867/2026, through which it modified the 2026 Budget and established a series of expansions and reallocations of funds for strategic areas.
The decree includes modifications amounting to approximately $217.954 million for the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces, another $30.518.9 million for the State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE), and movements totaling $119.289.5 million for the National Commission on Space Activities (CONAE).
The Executive presented the changes as part of measures aimed at “strengthening the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces through the incorporation, modernization, and recovery of means and equipment”.
In the considerations of the DNU, the Casa Rosada argued that it was necessary to immediately adjust the budget to cover salary, intelligence, and operational needs. According to the decree, a delay in adjusting the funds could affect the provision of certain essential services.
Defense and Armed Forces
The Defense area concentrates some of the most significant modifications. The Ministry of Defense incorporates $114.732.8 million in financial applications intended for advances to suppliers and long-term contractors.
The Argentine Army, for its part, receives $60.429.5 million, also intended for advances to suppliers and contractors.
The Argentine Air Force records modifications amounting to $34.156.9 million. Of that amount, $31.211.1 million corresponds to advances to suppliers and contractors, while another $2.945.8 million is allocated to personnel expenses related to its operational readiness.
In the Argentine Navy, $8.115.6 million is incorporated. Among the detailed items are $2.200.2 million for computer equipment and $5.915.4 million for the Operational Readiness Program.
Within this last program, $1.900 million for spare parts and accessories, $1.800 million for maintenance of buildings and facilities, and $614 million for studies, research, and feasibility projects appear. Resources for the maintenance of machinery, vehicles, and computer systems are also contemplated.
