It is in recognition of his success in Argentina applying the ideas of freedom and his role as the greatest diffuser worldwide.
Argentine President Javier Milei formally received the Economic Freedom Award, a distinction that had been awarded to him last month during the Hispanic Prosperity Gala, organized by Latino Wall Street in the United States.
The award was made by the director of La Derecha Diario, Javier Negre, together with Tony Delgado and Gabriela Berrospi, who recognized the Argentine president for his economic management and for his role in the international dissemination of the ideas of freedom.
The award was originally announced in February during an event held at the residence of U.S. President Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago. At that time, Milei was unable to attend in person due to the intense political agenda in Argentina linked to the extraordinary sessions of the Congress
.
Despite his physical absence from the event, the Argentine president sent a virtual message to the attendees, in which he confirmed the economic and political direction of his administration and expressed his vision for the future of the continent.
Javier Miley.
During that speech, Milei expressed his expectation that the libertarian model would spread throughout the region: “I hope that the model of freedom will be replicated throughout our continent, until socialism becomes
just a bad memory.”
Alignment with the West
The president took advantage of the distinction to propose what he defined as a profound change in Argentina's international orientation. In his message, he argued that for years the country had distanced itself from its
natural allies.
In this context, he said: “Past governments decided to make common cause with socialist dictatorships from all over the world, betraying those principles for which our liberators fought and died.”
According to the president, this situation forced a redefinition of the country's geopolitical strategy. For this reason, he defended the international alignment adopted by his government. “It was necessary to correct the course in geopolitical matters.” He added: “We are back where we belong, to the West, together with the United States, Israel and the rest of the free world
.” President Javier Milei and Donald Trump. In his speech, there was also strong criticism of the Venezuelan regime, which he described as a dictatorship responsible for political persecution and economic deterioration.
In addition, he highlighted the leadership of the United States in the hemisphere in the face of a lack of action by certain multilateral organizations
.
One of the main axes of his presentation was the bilateral relationship with Washington. In this context, Milei recalled that approximately two decades ago Argentina refused to move forward with a free trade agreement with the United States, a decision that marked the beginning of a process of economic
decline.
The president said that his government seeks to reverse that path through greater commercial integration with the world. “We believe that trade is the best path to peace and prosperity. We are not afraid of openness, because we know the value that Argentines have to offer the world when they free themselves from the chains that bound them,” he said
.
Management in Argentina
In the message, he also took stock of his administration since December 2023 and defended the reforms promoted by his administration. As he explained, the government's strategy was to act quickly in the face of the inherited economic crisis
.
“From day one, we knew that the only way to reverse such a critical situation was to act quickly and, above all, with a lot, a lot of conviction. Based on respect for life, freedom and property, we began the process of national reconstruction,” he explained.
Finally, Milei assured that the country has already gone through the most difficult stage of the reform process and maintained that his government will continue to move forward with structural changes and deregulation policies aimed at boosting economic growth.
In that regard, he concluded: “Today, we have already experienced the worst of the storm. Argentines massively ratified the course in the midterm elections
