Nintendo surprised with a new 'Star Fox' for Switch 2

Nintendo made a surprise Direct and confirmed the return of one of its most historic franchises. The company announced a new Star Fox for Switch 2, scheduled for release on June 25.

The game will be a reinterpretation of Star Fox 64, with completely renewed graphics, playable improvements and new content. The announcement took fans by surprise because there was no officially scheduled Nintendo Direct.

What will the new Star Fox be like for Switch 2

According to Nintendo, the new Star Fox will maintain the level design of the classic Nintendo 64, but will add a major visual update and new features adapted to

the power of Switch 2.

Among the confirmed novelties are a prologue mission starring Fox's father McCloud, new cinematic scenes and a challenge mode.

In addition, the game will include online multiplayer modes, 4 vs 4 combat and GameChat support with interactive avatars that will replicate players' expressions and movements during games.

The new title will incorporate mouse-like controls using the Switch 2 Joy-Con, one of the console's most promoted features

It will also have a cooperative mode in which a second player can control the artillery while another pilot the Arwing.

For more classic players, Nintendo confirmed compatibility with the Nintendo 64 controller available through Switch Online

In addition to the classic ships, there will be new playable sections with alternative vehicles, including submarines.

How much Star Fox will cost

Nintendo confirmed that Star Fox will cost $49.99 in digital format and $59.99 in physical format in

the United States.

The release will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 and will mark the main return of the saga after almost ten years without a major new

release.
