Economic activity in Argentina returned to growth at the beginning of 2026, after ending the previous year with GDP growth of 4.4%, thanks to the successful economic plan of the Government of Javier Milei.

According to the latest data released by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), the Monthly Estimator of Economic Activity (EMAE) registered a growth of 1.9% in the year-on-year comparison in January and 0.4% compared to December in the seasonally adjusted measurement.

The monthly figure reflects a continuity of economic growth, with a positive variation also in the trend-cycle component, which increased by 0.3%.

Compared to January 2025, ten of the sectors that make up the EMAE showed increases. Among them, Fisheries, with an increase of 50.8% year-on-year, and Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting and Forestry, which grew by 25.1% in the same period, stood out in particular

.

This last sector was also the one with the highest positive impact on the year-on-year variation of the indicator, followed by Mining and Quarrying, which registered a growth of 9.6%. Together, both activities contributed 1.7 percentage points to the total increase in EMAE in January

.

From the Government of Milei, the Minister of Economy, Luis “Toto” Caputo, highlighted the performance of the activity through his social networks. In his official X account, he stated: "THE ECONOMY GREW 0.4% MONTHLY IN JANUARY AND REGISTERED A NEW ALL-TIME HIGH.”

"In January, the Monthly Estimator of Economic Activity (EMAE) reached a new all-time high, both in the seasonally adjusted series and in the trend-cycle indicator,” the official explained

.

“In year-on-year terms, the indicator registered an expansion of 1.9% and was 8.3% above the level of January 2024,” he added.

The data for the first month of the year add to a context of wider improvement in economic activity.

A few days ago, it was also reported that Argentina's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.4% during 2025, cutting with two consecutive years of declines and reaching its highest historical level.

In this way, the official indicators reflect a dynamic of sustained growth in different key sectors, which continue to lead the economic improvement at the start of the new year.
