Venezuela and the United States resumed direct commercial flights after seven years of interruption, in a measure that reflects a change in bilateral dynamics and opens a new phase in the South American country's international connectivity.

The first flight departed from Miami and landed at Maiquetia International Airport in Caracas, marking the restart of a route that had been suspended in 2019 amid political tensions and restrictions imposed by Washington.

The operation was resumed by American Airlines, which plans to maintain regular frequencies on this connection.

The reopening of flights represents a concrete step forward in the relationship between the Trump administration and Venezuela, which for years

maintained limited ties.

Although it does not imply full normalization, the re-establishment of this transport route is interpreted as a gesture of rapprochement in a context of gradual changes in the international scene.

In practical terms, the measure has a direct impact on thousands of people. The air connection makes it easier for the Venezuelan community living in the United States to travel, especially in South Florida, where a significant diaspora is concentrated

.

It also simplifies the transfer of employers, workers and family members who, until now, had to resort to indirect routes with stops in third countries.

The reestablishment of flights may also have economic effects.

Greater connectivity favors trade, tourism and the movement of capital, at a time when Venezuela seeks to rebuild part of its international integration.

However, the process takes place in a context that is still complex. Political differences persist between Donald Trump and Delcy Rodríguez and various sanctions remain in place, limiting the scope of the reopening

.

Even so, the return of direct flights represents a significant change compared to recent years, marked by isolation and the lack of regular connections between the two countries.

In this scenario, the resumption of the air route appears to be a first step towards a more fluid relationship, although still conditioned by political and economic factors.

The challenge going forward will be to determine if this progress is consolidated and translated into new instances of cooperation, or if it remains a specific measure within a link that still faces multiple obstacles.
