With the return of football just around the corner after the break for the 2026 World Cup, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has decided to extend the winter transfer window again and will give clubs in the Professional League more time to finalize signings ahead of the Clausura Tournament and the international competitions.

Although the measure still needs to be published in the Official Bulletin, it has been reported that the new deadline to register players will be Friday, July 31, ten days after the originally scheduled closing, which was set for this Tuesday, July 21 at 8 PM, according to the tournament regulations.

The decision responds to the requests made by various institutions, which asked for an extension to complete negotiations in a market affected by the international calendar and delays in several transfers.

In this way, teams will be able to continue adding players even with the Clausura Tournament already underway, as the first match of the championship is scheduled to take place this weekend.

The extension will not be the only flexibility provided by the AFA. Clubs that sell or loan players abroad once the market is closed will also have a special period to replace them. In those cases, they will be able to sign a new player until September 2.

With this modification, institutions will have a greater margin to reorganize their squads in a market that still promises significant movements before the definitive closure of the transfer window.

When does the Clausura Tournament start

After almost two months of pause for the World Cup, the top category of Argentine football will return to action this week. The action will kick off this Thursday, July 23 and the matches scheduled to open this first round are Sarmiento - Argentinos Juniors and Belgrano - Rosario Central, both from Zone B and set for 7:30 PM. Later that same day, Defensa y Justicia will host Aldosivi in Florencio Varela at 9:45 PM for their Interzonal match.
