The Argentine Football Association (AFA) decided to intervene to assist San Lorenzo, which is going through a difficult economic situation with a significant debt to its squad due to very delayed salaries. However, the assistance was hindered by bureaucratic issues due to the institutional conflicts that the Ciclón is experiencing.

The club's deep leadership crisis continues to affect its operations, and faced with the inability to meet payments to the professional team, the AFA took action and requested the club's officials to provide a bank account number to make the transfer. However, the process became complicated because San Lorenzo provided the details of an account that is frozen, so AFA's money was immobilized by the Justice.

This situation worsened the discontent within the squad led by Miguel Ángel Russo, which will play the quarterfinals of the 2025 Apertura Tournament against Argentinos Juniors this Monday. So far, they still haven't received the owed payments, which intensified the existing conflict between players and directors.

The squad's stance

According to journalist Leandro Alves, who follows the Ciclón's day-to-day, he stated that the team "is very upset" about the situation. "The San Lorenzo squad won't train today due to lack of payment, the players are gathered in the locker room and initially won't train today. They are owed part of February, the salary for March, April, and May has already expired," he added.

"The squad expected San Lorenzo to make a payment. That came from money that belongs to San Lorenzo and should have been deposited by AFA. The account number given to AFA for the deposit was for a frozen account, which retained a large part of the money. What was left over went to the players' bonuses, they decided it should go there"

"The decision they are making today considering the lies, that's what they say from the squad, is not to train. We'll see if any director can solve it or not. Initially, the squad is making the decision not to train today," he concluded.

Solution and expectation for the payment

According to various sources, the AFA managed to "solve" the problem through its treasurer. With this new step, it is estimated that the squad could receive the owed payments between today and tomorrow, just before the important commitment for the quarterfinals of the local tournament.
