River's sporting crisis keeps getting worse. The 1-0 defeat against Vélez, in the sixth round of the Torneo Apertura, meant the third consecutive defeat in the domestic tournament and deepened a situation that is already alarming. In that context, Marcelo Gallardo canceled the press conference and left the stadium without speaking, while he is seriously analyzing his continuity.
The coach, who returned to the club in August 2024 and renewed his contract until December 2026, is going through the most delicate moment of his second spell. According to reports, he will take these hours for a deep reflection and this Monday he could communicate his decision both to the leadership headed by Stéfano Di Carlo and to the squad, before training at River Camp.
The statistics explain the climate of uncertainty. River lost 11 of its last 15 matches and 13 of its last 20 official games, a streak that had not been recorded at the club since the beginning of the last century. In Zone B of the Apertura, it stands in tenth place, with only 7 points and outside the play-off qualification spots. In the annual table, which grants places in international cups, it is in twentieth place, eight points behind the leader, Independiente Rivadavia.
