Martín Palermo decided to reject Unión's proposal to take over as the new head coach following the consensual departure of Kily González. Meanwhile, the management has already initiated contacts with Cacique Medina, although his arrival doesn't seem easy and there are other candidates under evaluation.
Just hours after the end of González's tenure was made official, which had started in June 2023, Luis Spahnel, president of the Santa Fe club, directly contacted Palermo. The former top scorer was recently released from Olimpia after the tough 4-0 defeat against Vélez in the Libertadores.

However, despite appreciating the call, the Titan replied negatively. In his response, he said that he decided to rest and not coach in the short term after his recent experience in Paraguayan soccer, where he was champion last year.

In light of this refusal, the board began to consider new alternatives. The first contact was with the Uruguayan Alexander Medina, who has been free since his departure from Talleres at the beginning of April.
The Cacique, winner of the International Super Cup with the T against River, already has other offers on the table, so his arrival is complicated and, for now, remains a distant possibility.
A very familiar name in Santa Fe also appeared on the radar: Leonardo Carol Madelón. The 62-year-old coach, who knows the club well after three previous stints (2001, 2014 to 2016, and 2017 to 2020), is one of the alternatives, although he is not the main option for the board. He is currently without a team since leaving Gimnasia in April 2023.
