After the strong impact caused by the unexpected loan of Kendry Páez, River isn't withdrawing from the transfer market and is once again looking to the past to strengthen its attack. In Núñez, the hope of bringing back Rafael Santos Borré, the top scorer of Marcelo Gallardo's tenure and one of the most emblematic figures of the recent golden era, has been revived.
Before the match against Gimnasia de La Plata, president Stéfano Di Carlo left the door open:"If there is a reasonable opportunity we're open to it, but we're going to stick with this squad", he stated, indicating that the club remains alert to potential opportunities, although without making hasty decisions.
According to reports, El Millonario has already made an informal inquiry for the Colombian forward with the idea of adding him on a one-year loan, with a purchase option. However, the scenario isn't simple, since Borré belongs to Inter de Porto Alegre, which acquired him in March 2024 for 6 million euros and signed him to a contract until December 2028. In that regard, the Brazilian club's stance is clear:it has no intention of parting with the player, much less under a temporary loan.

On top of that is the high salary the footballer earns in Brasil, a key factor that would force the forward to give up part of his contract and to apply internal pressure to facilitate his departure. For now, there are no formal negotiations underway, although River doesn't rule out moving forward if the context becomes favorable.
Another aspect to solve is the foreign-player quota. After the arrival of Kendry Páez, who will arrive in the country this Friday, El Millonario will have to free up a spot in order to sign another foreign player, which would imply a transfer abroad.
Borré's numbers at Inter de Porto Alegre
Since his arrival at Colorado at the beginning of 2024, the Colombian has played 80 matches, in which he has scored 23 goals and provided 8 assists. It should be noted that he is currently going through an inconsistent spell at the Brazilian club. Although he had a good first year, in 2025 he hasn't managed to maintain his level, with only 8 goals in 47 matches.
