Agustin Creevy questioned the concept of 'rugby values' and spoke about the Báez Sosa case
The legendary Los Pumas hooker stated that principles are common to all sports and criticized the attitude of those who consider themselves superior
Agustín Creevy, the player with the most appearances in the history of Los Pumas (110), surprised with a strong reflection on rugby and its culture. In a conversation with Clank, the native of La Plata confessed that he feels uncomfortable hearing the phrase "the values of rugby": "They make you stand on a sense of superiority that isn't right. Soccer, volleyball, and you at home also have principles."
Creevy y su opinión sobre los valores del rugby
The hooker, who retired from amateur rugby last weekend wearing San Luis's jersey, deepened his perspective by mentioning the murder of Fernando Báez Sosa: "It was madness. They were guys who claimed to play rugby, who clung to the values, but the value of rugby is the same as that of all sports. It's not like we're aliens who are somewhere else."
Creevy also focused on the social side of the sport: "Do you know how many poor clubs there are playing rugby and how many people got off the streets by playing rugby? It happens everywhere, it's not just rugby. There are terrible people inside rugby as well as outside, just like in soccer, just like anywhere else," he said.
Meanwhile, he referred to the controversial tribute by Los Pumas toDiego Armando Maradona in November 2020, when they only wore a black armband, while the All Blacks offered a jersey with the idol's last name and the number 10 before the haka: "I didn't play in that match, I wasn't there. It could have been avoided, yes. At the institutional level, something should have been done, at the team level as well. It was a very big blow."

When Los Pumas play again
After the defeat in Córdoba by 41 to 24, the Argentine team will face the All Blacks again. The match will be this Saturday, August 23 at the José Amalfitani Stadium in Vélez starting at 18:10.
