More than a decade after an episode that marked recent history for Boca Juniors, Agustín Orión recalled the injury he caused to Leandro Paredes during a training session and explained how he went through that moment.
The incident occurred in July 2013, when both were part of the “Xeneize” squad. During a practice, Orión came from behind on Paredes and delivered a strong kick that ended up causing the young midfielder a trauma and a serious sprain in his left ankle.

Currently the president of Ferrocarril Midland, the former goalkeeper remembered that episode. Orión acknowledged that it was one of the most difficult situations he faced during his career and emphasized that he never intended to hurt his teammate.
“Today I believe that he is the best footballer at present, without a doubt. One of the ugliest things that has happened to me in football undoubtedly happened with him. I spoke to him again, we were teammates again, he returned to play after that. Neither playing football nor in life or in sports, one does not want to harm anyone,” expressed the former goalkeeper.
Paredes, who at that time was taking his first steps in the First Division, had to undergo significant recovery before returning to the pitch. Over time, both returned to share a locker room and were able to put that episode behind them.
“I apologized,” Orión's confession
Orión also explained that he lived the moment with anguish and decided to apologize to Paredes for what happened. The former footballer clarified that he did not seek to justify the action, but to explain how he personally experienced the consequences of that play.
“I felt really bad inside, I took it upon myself, I don't have to externalize it, but at the time I apologized to him. It can happen, it happens rarely. I'm not justifying myself, it's a very ugly situation. One does not go out on the street to hurt anyone, especially in a football match,” he described.
