In light of the match between Argentina and England for the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup, the authorities in Atlanta have designed a special security device for the game that will take place this Wednesday at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Atlanta Police Department considers this match one of the biggest organizational challenges in recent years. While the city has experience in large-scale sporting events, the officials in charge of the operation acknowledge that the historic rivalry between both teams requires extraordinary measures.

One of the main focuses is on the spectator location system set up by FIFA.

Unlike other tournaments where the fans are completely separated, a large part of the stadium will have a mixed distribution. Only the sections located behind each goal will be exclusively reserved for the supporters of each team, while the side stands will host both Argentine and English fans.

This scheme increases the complexity of the operation, as it requires reinforcing controls both at the entrances and inside the stadium to prevent possible confrontations.

The authorities' concern grew after videos were shared on social media showing some altercations between fans from both countries in various locations around Atlanta.

The recordings reflect isolated arguments and fights in the vicinity of the stadium and also in bars around the city. In one of the most shared recordings, an English supporter is seen fighting with several fans wearing Argentina National Team jerseys.
