All the details about the ankle brace that Cristina Kirchner will wear

Key details have been revealed about the device that the former president will have to wear for six years

A few days before the Supreme Court's final ruling, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner began serving her six-year prison sentence under house arrest, in her apartment located on San José Street, in the Monserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires.

The measure, which includes the mandatory use of an electronic ankle monitor, was confirmed by judicial authorities and caused significant public interest.

In this context, key details were revealed about the device that the former president will have to wear throughout her sentence. Authorities explained step by step how the electronic monitoring system works, which will be managed by the Federal Penitentiary Service.

The electronic ankle monitor connects to a small device that functions like a cell phone, to which the former president's name will be linked. Both must remain together:  if they are separated by more than five meters (16.4 feet), an automatic alarm is triggered and reported in real time to the Ministry of National Security, notifying them of the irregularity.

The installation of the device is carried out by specialized personnel, who must go to the residence to attach the ankle monitor and provide the necessary usage instructions. The objective is to prevent any malfunction or improper handling.

On the inside, the ankle monitor has sensors that remain in direct contact with the skin. This system continuously verifies that the person is wearing the device, and activates a closed circuit the moment it is put on. From that point on, 24-hour monitoring begins.

In addition to proximity tracking, the ankle monitor sends periodic signals to the base device, which must always remain within the permitted range. Any attempt to violate this geographic limit is immediately detected by the security system.

Cristina Kirchner will serve her sentence under house arrest with an ankle monitor

The Argentine judiciary ruled on Tuesday that Cristina Fernández de Kirchner will serve her six-year prison sentence at her residence, after the Supreme Court upheld the sentence in the "Vialidad" case. The former president will remain in her apartment at 1,111 San José Street, in the Monserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires, where she will have to comply with a series of control measures established by the court.

The decision was made by Federal Oral Court No. 2, which accepted Kirchner's defense request not to be transferred to the Ezeiza prison, thus avoiding her appearance this Wednesday at the Comodoro Py courts.

According to judicial sources cited by Infobae, one of the main conditions imposed is the use of an electronic ankle monitor, which will be installed by the Directorate for Assistance to Persons Under Electronic Surveillance, under the Ministry of National Security.

The ruling explicitly orders: "Order the placement of an electronic surveillance device," which will allow for permanent monitoring of her location.

In addition to the use of the device, the former president will have restrictions regarding visits and movements within the residence. Although the authorized visitation regime has not yet been publicly detailed, it is expected that entry to the property will be limited to direct family members and a small group of close associates, according to established security guidelines.

The court's decision comes one week after the Supreme Court upheld the six-year prison sentence and lifetime disqualification from holding public office for her role in the Vialidad case, which investigated the awarding of public works in Santa Cruz during her administration.

With this ruling, Cristina Kirchner avoids serving her sentence in a federal penitentiary facility, at least in this initial stage, although the measure doesn't change the nature of her criminal conviction. Her situation will be regularly monitored by the judiciary and could be modified if noncompliance is detected.

Meanwhile, no public statements have been issued from the former vice president's inner circle after the measure became known. Meanwhile, sectors of the ruling party are considering mobilizations to symbolically support CFK, while the opposition has demanded that house arrest not entail "any political privilege."
