All the times Los Pumas defeated the All Blacks
After the historic victory in Vélez, the Argentine national rugby team recorded its fourth win against the New Zealanders
Facing New Zealand is, for any national team, one of the greatest challenges in world rugby. The All Blacks, considered by many as the best team in history, have established an almost absolute dominance over their rivals, and Argentina was no exception. However, Los Pumas managed to break the barrier on four occasions that remain etched in the memory of the nation’s sport.
The first meeting between both teams took place on October 30, 1976 in Ferro, Buenos Aires. However, the official record only began in 1985, since in the first encounters the New Zealanders did not field their main squad. Since then, the matches multiplied, but Argentine celebrations were few.
The first victory finally came on November 14, 2020, in Sydney, during the opening round of the Tri Nations. Under the leadership of Mario Ledesma, Los Pumas stunned the world with a historic 25-15 win.

The second occurred on August 27, 2022, in Christchurch, during the Rugby Championship. In the very home of New Zealand rugby, Argentina won 25-18, confirming that the previous victory had not been a coincidence.

In 2024 they repeated the feat on Kiwi soil: on August 10 they prevailed 38-30 in Wellington, at the start of the Championship.

Finally, the most recent milestone took place on August 23, 2025, when Los Pumas defeated the All Blacks for the first time on Argentine soil. It was 29-23 at the Vélez Sarsfield stadium, on a day that will go down in the history of the nation’s sport.
With these results, the Argentine national team has accumulated four victories over the All Blacks to date, a figure that, although smaller compared to New Zealand’s supremacy (35 victories), represents unforgettable milestones and sustained growth in the elite of world rugby.
