Caputo: 'Congress wants to go back to the past with more deficit and inflation'
Luis Caputo defended the adjustment, celebrated the fiscal achievements, and accused Congress of promoting 'populism'
The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, participated in an event at the Rural Society of Chivilcoy.
There, he delivered a strong political and economic speech, in which he defended the Government's direction and criticized the opposition for blocking the necessary reforms to maintain fiscal balance.
"Congress is essentially populist"
Caputo pointed out that Congress seeks to reinstate the deficit with bills that would require the issuance of pesos, which in his view would bring inflation and greater poverty. "It's clear that we have a Congress that is essentially populist and oppositional, which governed sixteen of the last twenty years and now wants to return to the past," he stated before an audience of agricultural producers.
Results in the face of the inherited situation
The official recalled the situation at the time of taking office, with the risk of hyperinflation and a country on the verge of collapse. According to him, the spending adjustment made it possible to balance public accounts.
"We reduced spending by 30% at the national level, and that allowed us not only to balance, but also to start lowering taxes," he stated.

Measures for production and agriculture
Among the policies implemented, he mentioned the elimination of export duties for regional economies, the reduction of import tariffs on inputs, and the reduction of the PAIS tax.
He also reaffirmed the commitment to end all export duties. "We shouldn't give to agriculture, but rather return what has been taken away for years," he emphasized.
A contrast of models under debate
Caputo stated that the electoral discussion revolves around two visions for the country: the one that dominated the last two decades and the one proposed by the current Government.
In that sense, he supported President Javier Milei for maintaining an unprecedented adjustment program in recent history.
Optimism for the future
The minister conveyed confidence regarding economic prospects. He recalled that Argentina already shows fiscal balance and stated that the country has one of the highest growth projections in the world.
"We're just a step away from Argentina taking off and nothing stopping it. The future depends on us maintaining this path," he concluded.
