The current Alpine season started complicated, scoring only 6 points in the first four races solely due to the result in Bahrain. For a team accustomed to the midfield, this present is bleak, but, although it's hard to believe, it's just slightly better than what was seen last season.
The first four races of the 2024 season were almost the same as now (the only one not yet raced is Saudi Arabia), but they were in a different order: Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Japan.
In Bahrain, the French team wouldn't score points because Gasly and Ocon, now at Haas, finished 18th and 17th respectively. In 2025, Alpine would also collect 0 points in the first race (Australia), despite multiple retirements. This time, the Frenchman finished eleventh and Doohan, Ocon's replacement, couldn't finish.
The next was the Saudi Arabian GP (it takes place next week), and the results were the same: 0 points, due to Ocon's 13th place and Gasly not finishing the race. In the second of this year, China, the French team would also have the same result under almost similar conditions, one driver didn't score due to position (Doohan in 15th) and the other due to some external factor (Gasly's disqualification [he was going to finish 13th]).
In 2024 the third race was in Australia, and Alpine would continue without scoring points, as both Gasly and Ocon would finish below 10th place, 13th and 15th respectively. This year, the third presentation was in Japan and had almost the same result: Gasly thirteenth and Doohan fifteenth.
To close the comparison, the 4th race of 2024 was in Japan and, for the fourth consecutive time, the French team wouldn't manage to score points, as Gasly would finish 16th and Ocon 15th. In 2025, the fourth GP, to the delight of Franco Colapinto's team, was very different, achieving the team's first 6 points thanks to Gasly's 7th place. Meanwhile, Doohan finished 13th, despite fighting for points positions for much of the race.
