Alta Gracia: criticism of Milei from an administration that celebrates Che Guevara

Mayor Marcos Torres questions the National Government while organizing events in honor of the communist leader

At the opening of the legislative year, the mayor of Alta Gracia, Marcos Torres, criticized the National Government, describing it as "violent" and disconnected from territorial reality. These statements contrast with the fiscal achievements of Javier Milei's government, which reached a financial surplus of 0.3% of GDP in 2024 (the first in 14 years).

Torres, representative (and envoy) of Córdoba's Peronism, highlighted the efficiency of his municipal administration without a fiscal deficit. However, his administration organized the 22nd edition of the "Semana del Che." This reprehensible event was funded with public money and honors Ernesto Guevara, a figure associated with revolutionary violence and authoritarianism.

Contradictions in the use of public resources

While criticizing the national government for its economic approach, Torres allocates municipal resources to activities that exalt Guevara's image. The event includes talks, literary presentations, and children's theater, promoting the image of a communist leader responsible for numerous summary executions.

This contradiction raises questions about the priorities of the local administration and the use of public funds in tributes to controversial figures. Meanwhile, the national government is implementing fiscal adjustment policies that have made it possible to reverse a financial deficit of 4.4% of GDP in 2023.

Fiscal surplus and economic adjustment

Javier Milei's government achieved a primary surplus of 1.8% of GDP in 2024 through a reduction in public spending and an increase in tax collection. These measures contrast with Torres's criticisms, who defends a "present State" model while organizing and funding events that celebrate murderous leaders.

Torres's administration, by honoring Guevara, seems to ignore the ethical implications of exalting a figure linked to repression and authoritarianism. This situation calls into question the consistency of his criticisms of the national government and the ideological orientation of his administration.
