Trump takes a firm stand after attacks on ICE agents in Democratic states

Physical assaults against immigration control agents in the United States, especially those from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (in English, ICE) and the Border Patrol, have increased drastically so far in 2025.

According to figures from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), attacks against these officials have grown by 830% between January 21 and July 14, compared to the same period in 2024.

This escalation of violence has led the Trump administration to take tougher measures, arresting those responsible and sending a clear message to leftist aggressors and illegal immigrants: attacking a federal agent will carry federal consequences.

California is one of the most hostile places for ICE agents.

One of the most recent incidents occurred a few days ago in Los Angeles, where a U.S. citizen was arrested for spitting on agents during a deportation operation.

Gregory K. Bovino, commander of "Operation At Large California" and chief of the El Centro Sector of the Border Patrol, posted on the social network X a video of the arrest carried out by the BORTAC special team, where the suspect can be seen wearing an anti-ICE t-jersey.

Another incident occurred on July 25, when two illegal immigrants working at a medical clinic were arrested and charged with assaulting a federal agent and conspiring to prevent by force and intimidation the agent from carrying out his duties.

Democratic jurisdictions are becoming a danger for agents.

In Portland, on June 24, Robert Jacob Hoopes, 24 years old, was arrested and charged with assaulting a federal agent with a dangerous object and damaging federal property during a violent protest in front of ICE offices.

According to court documents, Hoopes threw large rocks at the building, one of which struck an agent in the head, causing a serious injury above the eye. Later, he was seen using a traffic sign as an object to damage the main entrance of the building.

Since June 13, the United States Attorney's Office in Oregon has filed charges against 23 people for crimes committed at the ICE building in Portland. The charges include assaulting federal officers, arson, possession of destructive devices, and destruction of government property.

Trump will not let any assault on agents go unpunished.

The recent arrests reflect a firmer stance by the federal government in the face of what appears to be an organized attempt to forcibly stop the work of immigration agents.

The increase in attacks is occurring in a context of high political polarization regarding immigration, especially in Democratic states such as California and Oregon, where there are strong pockets of resistance to the White House's immigration policies.

However, those responsible for enforcing immigration policies, by order of President Trump, have warned that violence and assaults against federal agents will not be justified or ignored.
