Before following Lionel Messi around the world, he dreamed of pursuing a university career in Rosario

Antonela Roccuzzo, recognized worldwide as the wife of Lionel Messi, had a very different life project in her youth from the one she ended up building with the soccer star. Her personal story was marked by a decision that transformed her destiny: leaving behind her initial vocation to accompany the love of her life.

Born and raised in a humble neighborhood of Rosario, Antonela shared with Messi not only the city of origin but also family closeness. She is the cousin of one of his best friends, although the romantic bond between them didn't arise until 2007, when she was 19 years old and he was 20.

Before that romantic reunion, Antonela had envisioned a completely different life. Her great dream was to study Dentistry at the National University of Rosario. In fact, she enrolled in the program and also took courses in Social Communication.

The idea of developing professionally in the health field excited her from a young age. She confessed this years later in an interview with Haute Living magazine, where she recalled that, although her childhood was marked by that desire, life presented her with another path.

A new life with Messi

The story with Lionel Messi resurfaced strongly just when Antonela was looking to define her academic future. The love was so deep that she decided to abandon her studies and move to Europe, where she began a new chapter with the player. There they formed a family and had three children: Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro.

Over time, Antonela definitively distanced herself from clinics and university books and began to venture into the world of fashion. Her figure gained presence in advertising campaigns, fashion shows, and social media, where she established herself as a style icon.

Today, although she didn't complete her career in Dentistry, Antonela managed to reinvent herself. She applied her Communication knowledge to manage her public image and built her own identity, beyond the title of "Messi's wife."

She left behind a dream but found a different passion. In that unexpected turn, she managed to stand out with her own voice in a universe that, at first, wasn't part of her plans.
