The Argentine judiciary has upheld the international arrest warrants against Venezuela's narcoterrorist dictator, Nicolás Maduro, and his right-hand man, Diosdado Cabello, who are accused of committing crimes against humanity as part of a systematic plan of persecution, torture, murder, and arbitrary detention against Venezuelan civilians.
The decision confirms the validity of the measures ordered months ago by the Buenos Aires Federal Chamber and reinforces Argentina's commitment to the principles of international law and the defense of human rights.
La Justicia argentina ratificó órdenes de captura contra los narcoterroristas Nicolás Maduro y Diosdado Cabello
The judicial ruling is based on the principle of universal jurisdiction, which allows national courts to investigate and prosecute serious crimes against humanity, regardless of where they were committed or the nationality of the victims or perpetrators. The judges found sufficient evidence linking Maduro and Cabello to massive and systematicviolations of essential rights in Venezuela since at least 2014.
In September 2024, the Argentine judiciary requested Interpol to arrest both Chavista leaders in any country where they may be located, for the purpose of extradition to the Argentine Republic. The confirmation of this judicial measure adds to the arrest warrants issued by the United States judiciary, which also accuses the top leaders of the Venezuelan regime of leading a criminal organization linked to drug trafficking and terrorism.
Nicolás Maduro, dictador de Venezuela.
The confirmation of the arrest warrants reinforces the validity of the investigation led by prosecutors Carlos Stornelli and José Agüero Iturbe, who initiated criminal proceedings in the country on the grounds that the alleged crimes are not subject to a statute of limitations and must be prosecuted under the rules of international humanitarian law.
Meanwhile, the Argentine Foreign Ministry previously expressed its support for the actions of the judiciary and recalled that Argentina has repeatedly urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to move forward with the ongoing process against Maduro for human rights violations.
With this confirmation, Argentina consolidates its position as one of the Latin American countries most actively promoting the international criminal responsibility of the leaders of the Venezuelan regime for the crimes committed against their own population.
