A new episode of extreme violence shook the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo when terrorists linked to the Islamic State attacked a wake in the village of Ntoyo, leaving dozens of civilians dead. According to testimonies collected by human rights organizations, the attackers posed as civilians to blend in with the attendees before
starting the attack.According to the accounts, the terrorists, belonging to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), broke in suddenly and began to murder those present with firearms and knife weapons.
Witnesses described scenes of extreme violence: one man reported that he saw his sister killed with an axe, while another person reported that the attackers entered his house and kidnapped his four daughters.
Another testimony indicates that, after the attack, a woman found the bodies of her parents: her father had been shot dead and her mother attacked with a blunt object. “I have never seen so many bodies,” he told Amnesty International researchers, reflecting the impact of the event on the community
