The goalless draw against Rosario Central not only left River with a sense of disappointment in footballing terms, but also brought news that raised alarms in Núñez. In that match, Sebastián Driussi was replaced by Maximiliano Salas due to physical discomfort and, recently, the official medical report was confirmed: grade one tear in the left hamstring.
After undergoing tests, it was determined that the 29-year-old forward will have to remain inactive for between 15 and 21 days. This way, he is ruled out for the matches against Tigre and Argentinos Juniors in the Torneo Apertura and he would barely make it to the clash against Vélez, scheduled for February 22. In addition, it is very likely that he will miss River's debut in the Copa Argentina, against Ciudad de Bolívar, on the 17th of this month.
Driussi se perdería el debut en Copa Argentina
The injury comes at a delicate moment for the striker, who is going through a prolonged goal drought. Driussi hasn't scored since August 21 of last year, when he found the net against Libertad of Paraguay in the 1-1 draw in the Copa Libertadores round of 16. Since then, he has accumulated 13 matches without celebrations.
Despite his poor present, Marcelo Gallardo had renewed his confidence in him for the start of the 2026 season. "El Gordo" started in the first three Apertura matches (Barracas Central, Gimnasia and Rosario Central) and he also started in the preseason friendlies against Millonarios and Peñarol in Uruguay. However, his performance, like that of other forwards in the squad, was below the team's overall level.

Now, the coaching staff will have to readjust the attack while it waits for the recovery of a player whom Muñeco considers key, but who is once again halted by an injury at a crucial moment at the start of the semester.
