The Spotify Camp Nou is once again at the center of controversy. Two years after the start of the renovation works, the iconic home of Barcelona still has no confirmed reopening date, and now a report has emerged that strongly questions the selection of the Turkish construction company Limak, which is responsible for the project.
According to Cadena SER Catalunya, Limak was the lowest-rated company among the candidates to carry out the stadium's reconstruction, with a score below 50 points out of 100. The technical team of Espai Barcelona, made up of engineers, architects, and planners, had recommended other companies such as Ferrovial or FCC, which achieved better results in the evaluation process.
However, despite the technical report and an external audit that pointed out shortcomings in the schedule and in Limak's economic justifications, the club's board of directors ended up choosing the Turkish firm. The main reason appears to have been its promise to meet much shorter deadlines than the rest: only one year of exile at the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc, with the return to Camp Nou scheduled for November 2024 and the total completion of the work in July 2026.
