The government of President Javier Milei announced the creation of a Foreign Policy Coordination System within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed at coordinating state actions related to the full recovery of Argentina's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands, and the corresponding maritime and insular spaces.

The measure was officially communicated this Wednesday by the Office of the President of the Argentine Republic and is part of a series of decisions made in recent days to reinforce the national position against British occupation and activities carried out in the area without Argentine authorization.

According to the statement, the new system will aim to implement mechanisms for information, coordination, and advice for state activities that may affect the foreign policy or international interests of Argentina.

Additionally, it will allow the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that any action related to the country's foreign relations maintains “coherent, compatible, and uniform” criteria with the general guidelines of Argentine foreign policy, particularly regarding sovereign rights over the Falklands and other territories in the South Atlantic.

The decision thus aims to centralize and organize the actions of different state agencies on a matter that involves diplomatic, legal, and political dimensions. As highlighted by the Presidency, the recovery of full sovereignty requires a coordinated state action capable of maintaining a firm position over time and strengthening Argentine claims before the international community.

The announcement also comes after the government intensified legal actions against companies linked to hydrocarbon activities carried out without Argentine authorization. The Milei administration announced new criminal complaints against companies and also against directors, managers, administrators, and representatives involved in those operations.

In parallel, major international oil service firms such as SLB, Baker Hughes, and Halliburton confirmed that they will not participate in projects related to the Falkland Islands, amid the tightening of the legal strategy promoted by the Executive.

The Argentine position is also supported by repeated calls from the United Nations for Argentina and the United Kingdom to refrain from making unilateral decisions while the sovereignty dispute remains unresolved, including those related to the exploitation of natural resources.

The National Constitution also establishes that the recovery of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and South Sandwich Islands and the full exercise of sovereignty constitute a permanent and non-negotiable objective of the Argentine people.

“The National Government will continue to coordinate all available means to strengthen the coordinated action of its agencies to defend our sovereignty,” concluded the statement signed by Milei.
