In the case of the fatal accident on Camino de las Altas Cumbres, Laura Bengoa rejected Oscar González's probation proposal. Through her social media, she described the offer as "a mockery." She demanded an exemplary sentence for the former legislator.
González, who was the head of the Legislature at the time of the accident, presented a financial proposal for the affected families. He said the amount would be "highly multimillion." However, this offer was rejected by the victims, who are seeking justice through a trial.
A firm rejection from the Bengoa family
Laura Bengoa emphasized that probation is intended for minor offenses, not homicides. "Probation doesn't imply a sentence or guilt," she said. She stressed that the pain caused to her family is priceless.
The family's suffering deepened with the death of Alejandra Bengoa's mother. The woman died a few months after the accident. Laura explained that sadness and pain deeply affected her mother.
The position of the defense and the prosecution
Pedro Despouy Santoro, attorney for González, submitted the proposal for suspension of the trial on probation. He clarified that no responsibility was acknowledged. The prosecuting attorney, Germán Romero Marcón, anticipated that the families would reject the offer.
Laura Bengoa also criticized the media coverage. She pointed out that some media outlets presented the proposal as "a multimillion figure." She insisted that what they are seeking is justice and an exemplary sentence.
The tragic accident and the irregularities
The accident occurred on October 29, 2022, on Camino de las Altas Cumbres. González's truck collided with the victims' car. Alejandra Bengoa died instantly, and one of the teenagers was left paraplegic.
The case caused controversy due to irregularities in the vehicle's documentation. There were also questions about failures in the police isolation of the accident site. Currently, González is under house arrest, charged with involuntary manslaughter.
