Oscar González requested probation for the Altas Cumbres tragedy in Córdoba
The former legislator proposed compensating the victims of the 2022 traffic accident, thereby avoiding judicial prosecution
Oscar González, charged with manslaughter and negligent injury, is seeking to avoid trial through "probation". His defense offered comprehensive compensation for the victims of the crash that occurred on Camino de las Altas Cumbres. The accident resulted in a woman dead and a teenager with irreversible injuries.
Attorney Pedro Despouy Santoro confirmed that he requested the suspension of the trial on a probationary basis. He stated that González was willing to join a "restorative justice initiative". "It's the most reasonable solution from both a human and legal perspective," the defense attorney said.
The measure now depends on the Villa Dolores Chamber, which must call a hearing. The process could be completed in the coming weeks if there are no objections. Despite the public impact of the case, the probation remedy is provided for in the Argentine Penal Code.

An offer amid public scandal
According to Despouy, the proposed compensation would cover 100% of the damages under civil criteria. No amounts were detailed "out of respect for the victims and due to judicial confidentiality". The calculation was made according to current legal standards, interests, and categories recognized in court.
The defense attorney emphasized that the compensation was formalized in a document submitted to the court. The possibility of it being granted doesn't depend exclusively on the plaintiffs' acceptance. The Chamber has the authority to grant it even if they object, he clarified.
While awaiting the hearing, the defense insists that this solution considers the dignity of all parties. "González is in complete agreement," the attorney stated. The proposal seeks to close the criminal proceedings without a conviction.

The facts: a fatal crash in the Córdoba mountains
The accident occurred on October 29, 2022, on Route E-34, on Camino de las Altas Cumbres. González was driving a black BMW X1 toward Traslasierra when he collided head-on with a Renault Sandero.
In that car was teacher Alejandra Bengoa, who died instantly. Her daughter Marina and friend Alexa, both minors, were also in the vehicle. Marina was unharmed, but Alexa was left paraplegic as a result of her injuries.
González was charged with "aggravated manslaughter and aggravated negligent injury". Since then, the case has been the focus of criticism for the use of an official vehicle outside of official duties. The incident led to his resignation as a provincial legislator.
