Boca Is Looking for a Coach: a Manager From Argentine Soccer Has Already Been Contacted
An Argentine soccer coach might leave his club and has already had contacts with Boca to replace Gago.
The departure of Fernando Gago from Boca would be confirmed after the elimination in the Copa Libertadores. Juan Román Riquelme has already started conversations with potential replacements, and a coach from Argentine soccer appears as a candidate.
Boca's management has already had contact with Cristian "Kily" González, current coach of Unión de Santa Fe. His contract with Tatengue extends until December 2025.

The Rosario native, 50 years old, achieved qualification for the 2025 Copa Sudamericana, but the poor start to the season creates uncertainty about his continuity. In the first six matches, his team only managed two draws and suffered four defeats.
Kily remains focused on Saturday's match against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, although another loss could accelerate his departure. In that context, Boca has him on the list as a possible successor to Gago.

Other coaches considered to lead Boca
Guillermo Barros Schelotto
The Mellizo coached Boca between 2016 and 2018 and won two local titles: his tenure ended after the defeat in the 2018 Copa Libertadores final against River. Currently, he is free after his departure from the Paraguay National Team in September 2023. His relationship with Riquelme was never smooth.
Gabriel Heinze
He has always been in Boca's orbit, although he never coached the club. His connection with Riquelme dates back to their time in the Argentine National Team. He is without a team after his departure from Newell's in 2023.

Rodolfo Arruabarrena
The Vasco was Boca's coach between 2014 and 2016 and won two local titles. His tenure was marked by the elimination against River in the 2015 Copa Libertadores, in the memorable pepper spray night. His good relationship with Riquelme keeps him as an option.
Gabriel Milito
Runner-up of the 2024 Copa Libertadores with Atlético Mineiro, he was left without a club after losing the final at the Monumental. His name has already been mentioned on other occasions for Boca.
José Néstor Pekerman
A coach with a great relationship with Riquelme, whom he considers a footballing father. His last job was with the Venezuela National Team in 2023. At the club level, he hasn't coached since his stint with Tigres de México in 2009.

Gerardo Martino
After his time at Inter Miami, where he coached Lionel Messi, he left MLS at the end of 2023. Riquelme tried to bring him in at the beginning of that year, but Tata rejected the offer, leading to the arrival of Jorge Almirón.
