Boca Juniors said goodbye to the Copa Libertadores after defeating Alianza Lima 2-1 in the 90 minutes, but falling 5-4 in the penalties. The team couldn't overturn the series and was eliminated in the group stage.
The match started with an early goal for Boca. At 6 minutes, a cross from Marcelo Saracchi ended up as an own goal due to a deflection by Miguel Trauco, leveling the aggregate. However, at 19', Hernán Barcos equalized for Alianza with a header after a corner from Pablo Ceppelini.

In the second half, Boca came out with more intensity and managed to take the lead with a goal from Kevin Zenón at 57'. Edinson Cavani had a clear chance in the final minutes, but couldn't finish.
The goalkeeper change that didn't work
The match was decided from the 12 steps. Gago made a controversial decision: he took out Sergio Romero and put in Leandro Brey for the penalties. But the gamble didn't pay off.
Brey didn't save any shots. Paolo Guerrero, Fernando Gaibor, Miguel Trauco, Erick Noriega, and Pablo Lavandeira scored for Alianza. For Boca, Marcos Rojo, Cavani, Williams Alarcón, and Milton Giménez scored, but the final shot by Alan Velasco was saved by Guillermo Viscarra.
