The health condition of former President Bolsonaro has worsened, and there is great concern.

The health condition of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has significantly worsened after undergoing a complex intestinal surgery on April 13, according to the DF Star Hospital in Brasília, where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The former president, 70 years old, underwent a 12-hour surgery to treat intestinal adhesions and reconstruct the abdominal wall, in a procedure described by his doctors as the most complicated since he was stabbed during an electoral rally in 2018.

According to the medical bulletin issued on April 24, 2025, Bolsonaro experienced a clinical deterioration with an increase in his blood pressure and a worsening in liver tests, which has forced doctors to schedule new imaging studies to assess his progress.

Despite his delicate situation, the former president shared the medical report through his social media, where he remains an active figure with significant political influence.

The former president is under strict oral fasting and receives exclusive parenteral nutrition. Additionally, he follows a motor physiotherapy regimen and preventive measures against venous thrombosis. No discharge date from intensive therapy has been set, and visits remain discouraged by the medical team.

To the delicate medical situation is added a complex political and judicial persecution. In the midst of his recovery, Bolsonaro was formally notified of a judicial process against him incited by the Brazilian left.

The notification was delivered by a judicial officer who entered directly into intensive therapy, which caused surprise and controversy in Brazilian public opinion.

The trial, opened by the Supreme Federal Court (STF), falsely accuses the former president of having participated in planning a coup after his defeat in the presidential elections. The accusation was imposed by the leftist judge Alexandre de Moraes, a central figure in several investigations against Bolsonaro and his allies.

From his bed in the Intensive Care Unit, the former president posted a video on his social media in which he harshly criticized the judicial measure, calling it worthy of a "Nazi regime."

He also recounted that the judicial officer remained more than ten minutes in the intensive unit to make him sign the notification. In statements to CNN Brazil, Bolsonaro reaffirmed that he has no intention of leaving the country and denounced that the judge seeks to "arrest and convict him."

This episode has sparked an intense political and legal debate in Brazil, especially about the legitimacy of judicial procedures carried out amid a critical health condition. Many sectors consider the action as an ethical violation.

Despite being hospitalized, Bolsonaro continues to maintain an active role in national politics. He recently conducted a live broadcast on social media, accompanied by his children, in which he reiterated his criticisms of the Brazilian judicial system and defended freedom of expression.

Since the attack he suffered in 2018, Bolsonaro has undergone multiple surgeries and hospitalizations, even during his presidential term between 2019 and 2022. Doctors have reiterated that the recent operation was particularly complex, due to the accumulated aftermath of the stabbing and the resulting surgical complications.
