The 50th International Book Fair of Buenos Aires will close this Monday with a new historical record of visitors surpassing the previous mark set in 2022.
According to the Fundación El Libro, the organizer of the event, this edition had a total of 1,340,000 visitors in 19 days, exceeding the 1,324,500 of the previous maximum.
The growth is also reflected in the year-on-year comparison, with an 8% increase compared to 2025. This new milestone occurs in a context of record consumption, thanks to the stability and economic growth generated by the Government of Javier Milei.
This performance is even more significant considering that during the first Sunday, April 26, there was a drop in attendance coinciding with the exhibition of Franco Colapinto in nearby streets.

The massive attendance was evident throughout the fair. While attendance peaks were concentrated during weekends and the holiday on May 1, the flow of visitors remained high even on weekdays.
Regarding commercial performance, many publishers reported increases in sales of between 10% and 20% compared to the previous year.
The organizers highlighted the magnitude of the event, which occupied 50,000 square meters of exhibition space and brought together 480 exhibitors from 14 countries. The program included more than 1,350 cultural activities, among which the presence of two Nobel Prize winners in Literature, John Coetzee and Mo Yan, stood out.
The Activities
The impact of growth was also reflected in the professional segment. The specific sector days attracted 13,067 attendees, representing a 20.89% increase compared to 2025. This data reinforces Buenos Aires' positioning as a reference point in the regional calendar for publishers, booksellers, and international agents.

In this context, the Friendly Bookseller Program registered the participation of 1,166 exhibitors. The initiative, which offers discounts on books and free shipping of up to 200 kilos, also had a strong logistical component: 32,833 kilos of books were distributed within the country and 6,972 kilos internationally.
Cultural activity also showed significant figures. There were 714 events held in halls, 533 activities at stands, and 5,381 book signings by 4,973 authors in spaces of 122 exhibitors.
Additionally, 1,019 teachers, 36,932 students from 1,442 educational institutions, and 452 storytellers participated in the International Oral Storytelling Meeting.
Among the new features of this edition was the inauguration of the Central Stage, a new space dedicated to live music performances. The inaugural event gathered 1,500 attendees, and a performance by the Teatro Colón was presented.
On the international front, Peru participated as the first Guest of Honor Country with a 500-square-meter stand that included children's areas, a bookstore, an auditorium, and a business platform, reinforcing the global character of the event.
