The Brazilian financial giant BTG Pactual formally enters the Argentine energy business, in a new sign of the interest that the private sector is generating following the progress of Vaca Muerta and the regulatory opening driven by the Government of Javier Milei.
The company BTG Pactual Argentina Energía S.A.U. was registered by the National Gas and Electricity Regulatory Agency as a natural gas marketer in the Register of Marketers. The measure was officially announced through a resolution published in the Official Gazette and marks the advancement of one of the most important financial groups in Latin America within the local market.

The authorization does not make BTG Pactual a gas producer, but allows it to operate as a commercial intermediary. The firm will be able to purchase natural gas from producers and negotiate supply contracts with industries, distributors, electricity generators, and large users. In a growing market, this role is essential to link supply, demand, financing, and risk management.
The entry occurs in a context of profound transformation for Argentine energy. The expansion of Vaca Muerta has ceased to be an opportunity reserved solely for oil companies and has begun to attract investment banks, traders, international funds, and many groups more interested in participating in a business with enormous growth potential.
The Milei government has been promoting a deregulation and regulatory simplification agenda so that private entities can invest, compete, and operate with greater predictability. In this regard, the registration of BTG Pactual reflects how the opening of the market is beginning to attract large-scale players, with financial capacity and experience in capital markets.

According to official documentation, the firm met the requirements set by current regulations, including the accreditation of a share capital of $30 million, the presentation of its shareholding structure, corporate documentation, and the corresponding sworn statements. The company will be chaired by Manuel de Almeida Marins Gorito, while Sebastián Fernández Azzato will hold the vice presidency.
In addition to gas, BTG Pactual Argentina Energía has also been authorized by the Energy Secretariat to operate as a Commercial Marketer Participant in the Wholesale Electricity Market. In this way, the Brazilian group simultaneously enters two key segments of the Argentine energy system.
