While progressivism in Canada has made the dogma of open borders its central banner, the United States has shown that prioritizing national interest and border control drives true economic prosperity. During this period, the governments of Canada added a wave of uncontrolled immigration equivalent to 16.9% of its total population in 2015. However, this unchecked demographic expansion produced a disastrous economic outcome: its real per capita GDP barely advanced by a scant 4.0%.
Canada tripled immigration from the US
In contrast, the United States maintained a much more prudent migration policy, incorporating a number of migrants equivalent to only 4.9% of its population in 2015.
The result for Americans was a spectacular increase of 22.7% in their real per capita GDP. In comparative terms, Canada absorbed 3.5 times more immigrants per capita than Americans, but achieved only one fifth of the per capita GDP growth accumulated by the U.S. in the same period.
This deep gap confirms the severe warnings issued by Donald Trump, who openly denounced on Truth Social that "Canada has an unverified control of immigrants, millions of unverified people entering Canada and that is going to destroy our economy". Faced with the evidence of the data, Canadian authorities opted for dogmatic justification.
Finance Minister Champagne defended his open borders model arguing that "Canadians have a perspective on immigration that has allowed us to attract the best talent in the world to come to our nation and enrich it", also assuring that this constitutes "the Canadian way" and insisting that they will continue to work to "maintain the integrity of our immigration system".

Throughout the trajectory towards the first half of 2026 (H1 2026), the constant accumulation of migrants in Canada ended up suffocating the product per capita, in clear contrast to the financial vigor and firm defense of national workers exhibited by the United States.
