Sworn statements reveal millionaire income, multiple jobs, and properties; he says he has no cash or savings

Claudio "El Chiqui" Tapia submitted his latest sworn statement and once again came under scrutiny due to the extensive web of income, jobs, and properties he claims to own, along with the striking assertion that he has no savings, bank accounts, dollars, or investments of any kind. According to the official document, the president of AFA earns more than $818 million annually in net income, equivalent to $68 million per month, but declares that he doesn't keep a single peso outside of his real estate assets.

Tapia claims to have three jobs, although he only receives payment for two. At Conmebol, his main source of income, he reported that he receives about $60 million per month for his position as second vice president. However, according to his own statement, he dedicates only 120 minutes per week to that role. The calculation is simple: each hour of work is paid $7,500,000.

The other job for which he receives money is the presidency of Ceamse, the public waste company jointly managed by the Buenos Aires city and provincial governments. There, he claims to work about 15 hours per week, equivalent to three hours per day, for an approximate income of $8 million per month. Tapia assumed the position in January, promoted by then-governor Axel Kicillof, after being removed from the vice presidency by Jorge Macri's administration.

Despite declaring only those two paid jobs, ANSES also lists him as an active employee of Solbayres, a private waste collection company linked to the Impsa group. With that record, he is technically positioned on both sides of the counter: as head of a public waste company and, at the same time, as an employee of a private company operating in the same sector within the city. Tapia did not report that connection in his asset declaration.

Extraordinary income also raises questions. In the declared year, he added more than $200 million in additional income from the sale of assets, financial interest, and per diems. From the sale of a vehicle alone, he obtained $44 million, a value corresponding to high-end models. Meanwhile, AFA paid him about $30 million in per diems, even though he claims not to receive any salary for leading the entity.

The icing on the cake appears in the section on interest and financial income, where he declares having received more than $130 million from "fixed-term interest" and "dollar exchange differences." But in the same document, he states that neither he nor his family group possess bank accounts, cash, securities, dollars, or investments. The contradiction is evident: how does he generate interest from fixed-term deposits if he declares not to have any fixed-term deposits?

Regarding his assets, he details seven properties, including a house in Beccar valued at more than US$15.7 million, another in Río Luján, and several additional properties in San Juan, Buenos Aires, and CABA. He also lists ownership of two cars valued at more than $27 million.

Despite the magnitude of what was declared and the inconsistencies arising from the document itself, Tapia concluded his submission by assuring that he doesn't omit any assets or relevant information.
