Córdoba: Club Atlético River Plate de Inriville is convicted of the death of a child
The court held the club 80% responsible for the incident and ordered compensation for the family, following the tragedy that occurred in a swimming pool
The Córdoba justice system sentenced Club Atlético River Plate de Inriville for the death of a two-year-old child who fell into a swimming pool without safety measures. The judge determined that the club must pay multimillion-peso compensation to the victim's family. The ruling also orders preventive measures to avoid future accidents on the premises.
The incident occurred during a gathering at the club's barbecue area, outside the summer season. According to the parents, the child disappeared for a few minutes and was found submerged in the Olympic pool. The situation caused shock throughout the Córdoba town of Inriville.
Although the club tried to disclaim responsibility and blamed the parents, the justice system rejected its position. Judge Edgar Amigó Aliaga ruled that the institution had to assume 80% of the responsibility. The parents were assigned 20% for not preventing the child from entering the pool.

Lack of safety measures
The judge emphasized that the pool had dirty water, was full, and had no supervision of any kind. In addition, the area lacked an adequate fence to restrict minors' access. These conditions were considered decisive in the conviction against the club.
The compensation for moral damages exceeds 30 million pesos for the father (over 66,139 pounds) and more than 34 million for the mother (over 74,995 pounds). Compensation was also set for the child's sister for the emotional consequences resulting from the loss. The ruling requires the club to purchase civil liability insurance.

Reparation and prevention
The judge stressed that "the pain of losing a child has no possible compensation." However, he indicated that this type of judicial decision seeks to partially repair the damage caused. In addition, they aim to raise awareness and prevent similar incidents from recurring in social or sports spaces.
The ruling sets a precedent in Córdoba regarding safety in sports and social institutions. The justice system reaffirmed that clubs must guarantee minimum protection conditions. The case exposed the risks of institutional neglect and the need for effective controls.
