Córdoba Legislature approved on Monday a series of key appointments for the brand-new criminal oversight structure in the province. The Unicameral gave the green light to the slates sent by the Executive to fill the positions created within Córdoba's judicial system. The ruling party validated the appointment of the authorities of the Provincial Penitentiary Prosecutor's Office during the last session of the current year.
The Legislature endorsed the appointment of Bettina Graciela Croppi as the new General Penitentiary Prosecutor of the brand-new state agency. The appointments of Guadalupe Trillo Pellizari and Iván Javier Rodríguez as the new deputy prosecutors there were also approved. The list of senior officials was completed with María Florencia Degano and included Melani Mattia in the agency's technical secretariat.
The legislative chamber also gave its consent to appoint Néstor Alejandro Gómez as the new deputy prosecutor of the local Office of the Attorney General. Jorge Gustavo Folloni was appointed deputy public defender of the Public Defender's Office to complete Córdoba capital's judicial framework. All the slates had a favorable opinion from the Constitutional Affairs Committee, which interviewed the candidates beforehand.

State expansion and more public spending
The creation of this agency caused a strong controversy over the fiscal cost implied by the new million-peso political salaries. The agency will have the function of supervising the operation of prisons and all areas of deprivation of liberty throughout the province. The new state structure was created this past December 11 and establishes a general prosecutor's office along with four deputy prosecutor's offices and two secretariats.
