Córdoba: Former mayors launch 'Punilla Crece,' a political space with local leaders

Peronists, Radicals, and Socialists unite in Cosquín to project departmental power

Former mayors and leaders from various parties presented the new space "Punilla Crece" last Friday in Cosquín. The group brings together Peronist, Radical, and Socialist leaders with experience in municipal management. The objective is to add political weight in the department ahead of the upcoming elections.

Punilla recently held an election with a low level of participation in Carlos Paz, where only 17% of the electoral roll voted. That apathy highlighted the need for new messages and local leadership. The promoters of "Punilla Crece" believe that this demand creates space for a cross-cutting proposal.

The department keeps tension between sectors reporting to Panal and others aligned with local leaders. Amid these disputes, the brand-new front of former mayors emerges, seeking to organize themselves to influence the regional agenda. The initiative aims to bring together scattered wills and coordinate common projects.

Among the promoters are Matías Montoto from Huerta Grande, Gabriel Musso from Cosquín, and Patricia Cicerone from San Antonio. Luis Azar from Tanti, Néstor Cuello from Villa Parque Siquimán, and Omar Ferreyra from Villa Giardino have also joined. They are joined by leaders from Estancia Vieja, San Roque, and other localities.

Other leaders also participated in the launch, such as Marcos Arce (Estancia Vieja), Guillermo Chiclana (San Roque), Gustavo Pereyra (Cosquín), Tato Tabares (La Falda), Lucas Véliz, Eduardo Mozzi (La Cumbre), and Marcelo Rodríguez (Capilla del Monte), among others.

The organizers clarified that the front is "strictly local" and doesn't respond to provincial structures. Each member retains the freedom to engage in the Cordoba scene according to their own criteria. Nevertheless, several maintain a good relationship with the provincial administration.

Objectives of this new space

"Punilla Crece" will prioritize the recovery of territorial presence in neighborhoods and communes. They plan to develop a common diagnosis of infrastructure, tourism, and public service problems. With this input, they will design lines of action and seek funding at different levels of government.

The political goal is to compete for mayorships and communes in 2027 with a consensual departmental platform. To achieve this, they will establish thematic working groups and technical teams to support the proposals. The schedule of visits and meetings will be defined at the next plenary meeting.

During the presentation, the importance of accumulated government experience was emphasized. "We know what it means to manage, what it implies to govern, and what daily commitment to our neighbors demands," the spokespersons stated. The meeting marked the starting point for a joint work plan among the various leaders of Punilla.
