Prosecutor Franco Mondino charged Peronist leader Alejandro Ruiz with alleged willful omission of assets upon taking office as a legislator in 2019. The judicial investigation reveals that Ruiz may have concealed more than a dozen fields, several plots of land, and a car in his disclosure. This conduct constitutes the crime of falsification or willful omission, specifically defined in Article 268 of the national Penal Code.
The initial complaint was filed by attorney Pablo Olmos and led to multiple raids with the seizure of highly important documentation. Ruiz, assisted by his defense attorney Lucas Colazo, denied the allegations but refrained from testifying, resorting to various administrative technicalities. The defendant attempted to justify the absence of the declared assets by alleging supposed problems with forms and some annulled deeds.
Alejandro Ruiz represents a symbol of Peronism in northern Córdoba and is one of those officials who have lived off the State for decades. He served as communal chief of Bañado de Soto for three consecutive terms and left office in 2019 through a maneuver typical of old local politics. He appointed his son Fabricio, just 19 years old and without having finished high school, as his direct successor in public administration.
El imputado intentó justificar la ausencia de los bienes declarados alegando supuestos problemas en formularios y unas escrituras anuladas.
Explicit nepotism and judicial cases
This is another handpicked appointment and a case of explicit nepotism that has become normalized within the current power structure of Córdoba's PJ. Meanwhile, Ruiz senior was promoted to provincial legislator that same year and, after completing his term, did not relinquish the local state structure. Today he heads the Civic Center of Cruz del Eje, inaugurated with the presence of Martín Llaryora, reaffirming his role as a pro-government operator.
The current charge is not the only judicial front Ruiz faces, as his own brother-in-law reported him for alleged land coercion. The conflict arose over land intended for a turf track that Ruiz sought to expand, a situation that caused significant controversy. Although the prosecutor's office requested to dismiss the case at first, the Control Court ordered the investigation of the reported events to continue.
Alejandro Ruiz representa un emblema del peronismo del norte cordobés y es uno de esos funcionarios que vive del Estado desde hace décadas.
There was also a previous complaint regarding an alleged cannabis plantation on a family estate, a case that was eventually dismissed. While Córdoba's PJ tries to present itself as renewed, Alejandro Ruiz's case once again highlights the vices of old local politics. The accumulation of personal power, the use of public office as inheritance, and a questionable relationship between real and formal assets become evident.
The consolidation of the political caste
With a son as mayor who has not finished high school and hidden assets, Ruiz consolidates himself as an example of that deeply entrenched political caste. This leadership continues to sustain itself thanks to its loyalty to the Peronist apparatus, rather than to transparency or merit in public management.
