Denise Gough doesn't know if she'll return as Yennefer in The Witcher 4

Many fans expressed their concern, highlighting the importance of the relationship between Yennefer and Geralt

The uncertainty surrounding Denise Gough's participation, the actress who voiced Yennefer in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has caused concern among the saga's followers.

In a recent interview, Gough confessed to having no information about her inclusion in The Witcher 4, which fueled speculation about the absence of a central character for the narrative.

Denise Gough: "I don't know anything about it"

When asked about her possible return, Denise Gough was blunt: "I don't know anything about it," she replied, adding that during the audition for the previous game she had experienced some confusion about the process. Her statements surprised fans, given that Yennefer is one of the essential pillars of the saga alongside Geralt of Rivia and Ciri.

Currently, Gough is involved in other projects, such as the Andor series from the Star Wars universe, and she acknowledged that she hasn't had recent contact with the CD Projekt RED development team. She also said she was unaware of the rumors circulating about the game.

Status of The Witcher 4 development

The Witcher 4 began its formal development stage in November of last year.  Its release is not expected before 2026, and it has been confirmed that Ciri will take on a leading role, which will mark a new stage in the narrative of the universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Doug Cockle, the historic voice of Geralt, will indeed reprise his character, although it is unknown to what extent he will participate. However, the lack of confirmation about Yennefer generates doubts about the story's focus and how it will affect the emotional evolution of the protagonists.

A role that marked the fans

Although Gough admitted to not being familiar with the gaming world during the recording of The Witcher 3, her performance was widely celebrated by the community. "Sound technicians would ask me if I was the voice of Yennefer," she recalled, revealing a genuine connection with the audience that continues to recognize her to this day.

Expectation on social media and pressure on developers

On social media, reactions were swift. Many fans expressed their concern, highlighting the importance of the relationship between Yennefer and Geralt, both in the video games and in the books and the Netflix series.

"The saga wouldn't be the same without her," several users commented. Others, however, began to speculate about a plot focused solely on Ciri. In this situation,  pressure is mounting on CD Projekt RED to provide more details about the voice cast  and the narrative structure of the new title.
