President Donald Trumpdemanded on Tuesday that California Democratic Senator Adam Schiff be brought to justice after evidence emerged linking him to a mortgage fraud scheme.
Through his Truth Social network, Trump accused Schiff of committing fraud by declaring his primary residence in Maryland, which would have allowed him to obtain more favorable mortgage terms, despite having represented California in Congress since 2000.
"I always suspected Adam Schiff was a scammer.Now I learn that Fannie Mae's Financial Crimes Division concluded that he has engaged in a sustained pattern of possible mortgage fraud," Trump wrote.
The fraud began in February2009—when the Democrat refinanced his property in Maryland and was already a member of Congress—and continued until October2020, when he finally designated that house as his secondary residence.

Trump argued that the former congressman should have declared the property as a secondary residence from the beginning, since as a federal congressman for California, his primary domicile should have been in that state.
"Adam Schiff is a criminal, and he needs to be held accountable," Trump stated to the press in the White House gardens, adding: "I thought he had covered his tracks better."
A government source confirmed that the case was referred to the Department of Justice for a deeper investigation, where Schiff could face criminal charges for each monthly mortgage payment made under a false declaration.

The congressman defended himself against the accusations, categorically denying any wrongdoing. For Schiff, this investigation against him is not due to his criminal acts, but because he led the first impeachment trial against Trump back in 2019, where, in any case, the current president was acquitted.
However, it appears that Schiff is not the only Democratic politician prone to committing crimes of this kind.
In April, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) referred to the courts another case of mortgage fraud involving New York Attorney General, the anti-Trump Letitia James, for her properties located in Brooklyn and Virginia.
