The President of the United States appointed the television host and former district attorney as interim United States Attorney in Washington D.C
President Donald Trumpannounced Thursday the appointment of Jeanine Pirro, Fox News host and former district attorney, as interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia.
This announcement came after the withdrawal of Ed Martin's nomination, who faced strong opposition from Republican senators on Capitol Hill, especially from Senator Thom Tillis, a key figure on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
In a Truth Social post, Trump highlighted Pirro's career as the first woman elected to various judicial and political positions in New York, describing her as a "powerful advocate for crime victims."

He also emphasized her television success, recalling her role as host of the show Justice with Judge Jeanine for a decade and her current role as co-host of the popular opinion program The Five on Fox News.
Pirro has been a close ally of Trump for years, with a frequent presence at Mar-a-Lago since before his first presidential run. Her relationship with Trump is longstanding, to the point that one of her publications, Don’t Lie to Me, is dedicated to the president.
Her appointment has been well received by Republicans, including Senator Tillis, who previously blocked Ed Martin's nomination. Tillis praised Pirro as a solid choice, highlighting her experience as a prosecutor.
Pirro will have to leave her role at Fox News to assume the new position, and the news was confirmed live by Bret Baier, one of the channel's main figures.

Pirro has been one of Trump's most vocal defenders on television, using her legal background to debate against his critics and argue the accusations made by Trump related to the 2020 election fraud.
Pirro's appointment comes after Martin's failed nomination, whose official designation was withdrawn by Trump that same day. Martin had been announced as a candidate in March, but his confirmation process was hindered by multiple obstacles.
Trump announced that Martin will take on other roles within the Department of Justice: he will be director of the "Weaponization Working Group," associated with the deputy attorney general and pardon attorney. According to Trump, Martin will lead investigations into the weaponization of government under the Biden regime.

Although Trump publicly praised Martin, he acknowledged that his candidacy did not have the necessary support. "I can only pick up that phone a few times a day," the president said, noting that he needed someone who would generate more consensus.
Pirro's appointment represents a strategic decision by Trump, who has repeatedly turned to Fox News personalities to fill positions in his administration, strengthening the bond between his political movement and the conservative media. The selection also seems aimed at consolidating support among his electoral base, aligning with high-profile media figures.
