The President of the United States and other American right-wing figures expressed their support for the Honduran candidate

In the lead-up to the elections to be held this Sunday, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, issued a series of messages on social media in which he offered strong and open support to the National Party candidate, Nasry "Tito" Asfura, whom he described as the "only true friend of freedom" in the Central American country.

The statements were released in a climate of growing tension and questions about the transparency of the Honduran electoral process, which will take place today.

In his first post, Trump warned that Honduran democracy "is under scrutiny" and outlined a scenario in which "narco-terrorists like Nicolás Maduro" could take control of the country if the force led by communist Rixi Moncada wins.

In that context, he stated that Tito Asfura represents the defense of democracy and highlighted his work as mayor of Tegucigalpa, mentioning public works such as expanding access to drinking water and paving roads.

Trump directed strong criticism at Asfura's two main rivals. Regarding Moncada, candidate of the ruling Libre party, he asserted that she is a supporter of communism and recalled that her idol is the infamous Fidel Castro.

He also accused the liberal candidate Salvador Nasralla of being part of a strategy to divide the conservative vote and reduce support for Asfura, describing him as "almost communist" and "untrustworthy."

The U.S. president insisted that the Honduran people must not "be deceived again" and that only Asfura is capable of guaranteeing freedom and stability. He also stated that he himself could work closely with the candidate to "fight the narco-communists" and support the Central American country if Asfura is elected.

Hours later, Trump published a second message, in which he stated that if Asfura wins, the United States will offer "great support" to Honduras, while if he loses, Washington will not waste its money on a misguided government.

The president's statements come in parallel to international concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, urged the OAS to demand elections "free from intimidation, fraud, and political interference," following allegations of interference by the Honduran Public Ministry and the Armed Forces in functions exclusive to the National Electoral Council.

The electoral scenario is also marked by harsh criticism of the communist government of Xiomara Castro, which keeps a state of emergency and faces questions over rising violence and corruption. In this context, Trump's intervention adds tension to the process by explicitly supporting one of the candidates and warning about the dangerous communist threats if Asfura doesn't win.

The impact of these statements on the Honduran electorate is still uncertain, but they have placed Trump at the center of the political debate, reinforcing the narrative of Asfura as an ally of the United States on security and conservative policies.
