Where did the earthquake occur?

The epicenter was located northwest of the city of Sagaing, in Myanmar, at a shallow depth. Minutes later, a 6.4 aftershock increased the damage in the area.

The administrative capital Naypyidaw suffered partial collapses in buildings and cracks in roads. People evacuated amid screams and desperate calls to family members.

Impact in Thailand and the wave in Bangkok

The earthquake was strongly felt in Thailand. In Bangkok, the collapse of a skyscraper under construction caused a wave in the pool of a nearby building. The water fell onto the street and swept away pedestrians.
